Gazelle (SA 341-G)

A unique helicopter for motion picture productions that can perform various roles such as a military gunship, foreign country attack helicopter, high speed chase helicopter and much more. The SA341 Gazelle helicopter is a five seat multi-purpose, lightweight utility/attack helicopter that was manufactured by Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation in France. It is one of the fastest helicopters ever designed and is used in approximately 23 countries for military applications such as attack, anti-tank, anti-helicopter, transport and training. The Gazelle is the first helicopter to be fitted with a fenestron shrouded tail-rotor that enhances flight characteristics at high speed and reduces noise. A Gazelle demonstrated its speed capabilities when two separate world speed records were broken achieving speeds of 190 mph. The Gazelle can transport up to four passengers and up to 1,320 pounds of cargo on the underside cargo hook, or alternatively up to 1,100 pounds of freight in 80 cubic feet of internal space in the rear of the cabin. While in service with the French and British military the Gazelle was used primarily as an anti-tank gunship armed with up to four wire-guided anti-tank missiles, or a forward firing 20mm cannon.

SONY PMW-F55 CINEALTA 4K

  • The Sony PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K Digital Cinema Camera features an 8.9MP Super 35mm image sensor, capable of capturing 4K, 2K and HD resolution video in a variety of formats via the camera's internal recorder. The F55 is among the first digital motion picture cameras with a global shutter, which completely eliminates motion skew and other "rolling" shutter distortions. Sony has designed the F55 as the foundation of an exceptionally versatile, modular system.
  • On-board 4K recording requires high-data rate recording media, and the F55 will use Sony's newly developed SxS PRO+ memory cards. SONY PXW-FS7 4K XDCAM SUPER 35mm

  • The 4K Super35 EXMOR sensor features 14 Stops of latitude and a wide color gamut. It offers a choice of XAVC or MPEG-2 codecs. The XAVC codec can be used for 4K and HD recording, while MPEG-2 is limited to HD recording.
  • FS7 records internally in 4K up to 60fps in UHD 3840x2160 and in HD up to 180fps using XAVC-I or up to 120fps with XAVC-L. Recording Apple ProRes to the internal XQD slots requires an optional EXCA-FS7 extension box and future upgrade.

DAN FRIEDKIN

Founder / SAG Pilot

Dan Friedkin is founder and chairman of the Air Force Heritage Flight Foundation and one of nine civilian Heritage Flight pilots qualified to fly in formation with U.S. Air Force single-ship demonstration teams. He participates in air shows throughout North America and Europe, flying right wing for the Horsemen P-51 Flight Team, the world’s only P-51 formation aerobatic team. He also serves as the aerial coordinator for the Air Force Heritage Flight training course, and in 2012 was the recipient of the USAF Civilian Pilot of the Year Award.

Dan first took to the skies at an early age, developing his skills on gliders and a variety of tail wheel aircraft and helicopters. Today, Dan has a focus and passion for warbirds and actively flies the T-6, P-51 Mustang, F-86 Sabre, F6F, F8F, F4U-4, Hawker Hurricane and various models of Spitfire. Dan additionally uses his unparalleled experience and enthusiasm for flight in the film industry; over the past five years he has directed and coordinated more than 1,000 hours of helicopter air-to-air, ground-to-air, and in-cockpit footage with Spitfires, Mustangs, Sabres, Corsairs, Lightnings, Hellcats and Bearcats.

Dan’s work on The Horsemen Cometh was nominated for an Emmy in cinematography, and he has served as director/DP, aerial coordinator, and principle pilot for numerous feature films, documentaries, and commercial projects. Most recently Dan acted as an aerial unit coordinator, Spitfire pilot and helicopter camera pilot in Christopher Nolan’s newest epic IMAX film, “Dunkirk”.

John Tamburro began his aviation career 28 years ago as a commercial helicopter pilot in Southern California. After a successful career as a news pilot, covering major events, including the OJ Simpson chase, LA riots and Northridge earthquake, he had the honor of flying the top organ transplant teams in Los Angeles.

John is qualified in A-Star, Twin star, Augusta 109, Bell 206 Jet Ranger, Bell 206 Long Ranger and Bell Huey. Coming from a family of stuntmen and pilots he decided to dedicate his flying to the motion picture industry. Specializing in the film industry for the past 21 years he has accumulated over 7500 hours flying in feature films, television and commercials with a perfect safety record. John has worked with some of the top stunt coordinators and directors in the Motion Picture and Television Industry. John has a passion for aerial cinematography and is an expert at coordinating exact helicopter camera movements with his aerial cinematographer.

As a camera pilot, John’s professionalism will support a Director in achieving his or her creative vision from the air. John’s experience ranges from flying close air to air formation, low-level chases, military operations, to flying and landing near camera crew and cast. John is a member of the Motion Picture Pilots Association, a member of Screen Actors Guild and was nominated in 2001 for a World Stunt Award for best aerial work in the feature film Gone in 60 seconds.
